Scholarship
AID India began the Scholarship Project to help students from school and college with monetary aid. This initiative was started to prevent students affected by poverty and Covid -19 from dropping out of schools and colleges.
The students who benefitted from this initiative were able to continue their education and face no risk of dropping out. The Scholarship Project strives to give a sense of hope and security to students and help them carry forward on their path to education with strength and grit.
Eliminating Deterrents for Education
The pandemic has created huge gaps in the country. One of the biggest gaps that we are yet to fill in the dropout rate in schools and colleges due to the pandemic.
Here are some statistics of how the pandemic has affected education in India:
- ● The Unified District Information System for Education reported that close to 15 crore children are out of the education system since the beginning of Covid-19 in India.
- ● 17% of the dropouts were seen in the secondary level.
- ● In their brief, the National Right to Education Forum reported that close to 10 million girls were at the risk of dropping out of school.
- ● 64% of the children said that they would drop out if they were not provided with adequate educational support.
Adding to the adversities of Covid-19, poverty or inadequate funds to pay for their education seemed to be the leading problem for dropouts in schools and colleges.
Multiple people lost their livelihoods due to the pandemic making it harder to support their children’s education. Many college students could not be dependent on part-time jobs either with staggering unemployment rates.
AID India recognized these numbers and immediately began a call for action. Realizing that these numbers are not good for the future generation of the country, the Scholarship Project was launched. This initiative has so far helped several students stay on their path to education by providing them with annual monetary aid.
Enlightening Lives with the Scholarship Project
The Scholarship Project has been used to fund the education of 245 students to date. 200 students from Tamil Nadu and 45 students from Karnataka were recognized and awarded annual scholarships that could help pay for their education.
The students were selected from lesser-privileged backgrounds and from families that have suffered sudden and unfortunate losses due to Covid-19. Some children were also brought up by single parents who were struggling to support their children’s education financially.
AID India teams under the Scholarship Project have also distributed uniforms, books, and bags to over 80 Government students from college and school.
With a closely connected vast team of volunteers, AID India seeks to provide support and a sense of security to more college and school students and help them achieve their goals and aspirations.
Join the Fight to Educate
Help us support more college and school students with monetary aid to fund their scholarships. Our scholarships can help them continue their education without dropping out or falling back on their grades due to the lack of funds.
The Scholarship Project by AID India is focused on reaching out to the underprivileged and those who have incurred severe losses in the pandemic. We hope that our initiative continues to keep more students in the classrooms and prevents them from quitting due to financial constraints.
