    Mr. K.S. Ramamoorthy

    President

    K.S. Ramamoorthy is an octogenarian, who retired as a Senior Civil Servant after working with Governments of Zambia and Botswana in Africa for several decades. He also served in the UN, as a consultant. KS. Ramamurthy returned to India in 1999 to engage with some of the most marginalized communities in the tribal areas of Vellore district. His NGO, SODEWS, addresses education, health, environmental and livelihood issues in tribal pockets in five blocks of Vellore District, Tamil Nadu and one village in Uttarkashi District, Uttarakhand.

    Dr. Balaji Sampath

    Founder & Secretary

    Balaji Sampath, is an IIT Madras alumnus and holds a Ph.D in Electronics from Univ. of Maryland, College Park. As a graduate student, he mobilized 500 volunteers and started 25 chapters of Association for Indias Development in the USA. In 1996, he returned to India to work fulltime on social issues and founded Aid India. Under his vision and leadership, Aid Indias education programs have impacted the learning quality of nearly 2 million children. Balaji Sampath is an innovator and educator, who teaches science and math to high school students. His Science Demos on Sun TV have been hugely popular among children and adults alike. His books, videos and innovative teaching methods have inspired thousands of students and teachers. He is the Founder-CEO of AhaGuru, an education portal providing online science and math courses to thousands of students. He is a recipient of several awards including the prestigious Asoka Fellowship, Lemelson Inventor Certificate and Distinguished Alumnus Awards from IIT Madras (2012) and University of Maryland (2016).

    Ms. Chandra Anil

    Treasurer

    Chandra Anil holds a B. Tech in Instrumentation from BITS Pilani. She started as a volunteer at Aid India, while working at Sun Microsystems. In 2002, she quit her corporate career and started working on education programs. Under her leadership, Aid India has seen the successful and systematic research and implementation of several key education initiatives. Chandra Anil is the Founder-CEO of ELF Learning, a social enterprise to promote English language learning in India. She is also the Founder Trustee of Pratham Tamilnadu Education Trust, and has been a consultant to the SSA and UNICEF for the Reading and Math Programs. She is a well-known resource person and trainer on primary education for Vidyarambam, Makkal Palli Iyakkam and other NGOs. She has authored large number of childrens books, designed board games and learning aids. Aid India was awarded the Pratham 2006 Achievement Award for the reading program developed by Chandra and Damodharan.

    Mr. Dhamodharan M

    Joint Secretary

    B.Sc. Botany and M.A, M.Phil in Anthropology from Madras University. Damodharan is a self-made first generation graduate from a poor dalit landless family in a remote village in Villupuram.He has been with Aid India since 2000. Damu, as he is known, is a major source of inspiration for our field teams and his co-workers. He heads the implementation of Aid Indias key development initiatives on education and housing. A terrific organizer, he has also been responsible for developing a strong field base for the organization across the state. He has been the major driving force behind the wide spread implementation of the reading program. He has also been a state coordinator of the Makkal Palli Iyakkam program and is a well known resource person who has trained many NGOs on primary education activities. Damodharan has been a member of Reading Cell, constituted by the TN Govt to improve reading skills. He has also represented NGOs, as a member of the TN State Planning Commission. Aid India was awarded the Pratham 2006 Achievement Award for the reading program developed jointly by Damodharan and Chandra. Damodharan is also the author of a number of childrens books and educational kits.

    Dr. Ravishankar Arunachalam

    Joint Secretary

    Ravishankar Arunachalam is an alumnus of IIT Madras and holds a Ph.D from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He quit IBM, Austin to join Aid India. Ravishankar was instrumental in developing the science demo class program and the Ariviyal Anandam programs which are being implemented in schools across the state. Ravishankar, along with Gomathi, developed the Eureka Science Lab-in-a-Box, for which Aid India received the MIT Indus Technovators Award 2005. He has also been instrumental in helping Satyam and Byrraju Foundations adopt the science experiments program in other states. He is a member of the Tamilnadu State Secondary Education Curriculum Revision Committee and is also a key resource person of the Tamilnadu Science Forum. He is the author of many popular science and math books. Ravishankar is Founder-CEO of Chudar a non-profit working on middle and high school education initiatives.

    Ms.Smitha

    B. Tech in Computer Science from BITS Pilani. Quit software job in Wipro to volunteer in villages for health and education programs. Worked on starting up education initiatives like Government school quality improvement, libraries and village learning centres in Krishnagiri district. Instrumental in implementing a district wide Science program with the district collector Mr. Santhosh Babu (IAS). Led the education evaluation team in Aid India to conduct large scale assessments of children learning levels. Experienced in research, program documentation and interacting with several large non-profit foundations in India and abroad. Smitha advises Eureka School on defining appropriate academic and non-academic goals both for students and for teachers. Smitha also interfaces and engages with other individuals and institutions in the education arena to help Eureka School improve its curriculum, offer newer learning experiences to the students and adopt best practices in teaching and learning methodologies.

    Ms.Samundeswari

    B. Com from AAA College, Vellore and Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education from IGNOU University.Has been the Vellore district coordinator for Muthucharam Savings Group Network.Has been the district coordinator for the Action Research Community Health Project. She is one of the core members of the organization who has been responsible for building it up. Samundeswari is a terrific organizer – she has been instrumental in starting off field programs in many new locations – Tiruvanamalai District, Kanchipuram District, Krishnagiri District, Sivagangai District and Vellore District! She has the unique ability of going to a completely new place, staying there for 5-6 months and building up a very strong and committed team of volunteers and fulltimers who can carry the work forward without her!

    Ms. Gowri Subramanian

    B.Sc. Physics and MBA from Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College. She worked as the Team Lead in Placement Place, as Process Associate in MAFOI Consulting and as HR Executive in CDFI. She also freelanced with the Tamilnadu Foundation. Gowri has been playing an important role in handling our HR requirements apart from looking at our Children’s Scholarship program and the Eureka SuperKidz program.

    Ms. Radha Aravamudhan

    B.E., BITS Pilani, Masters in Engineering from San Jose State University. Was working as Senior Software Engineer in Cypress Semiconductors, before and quit to work full time on the rural education programs. She headed the implementation of Aid Indias large scale rural education programs along with Ravishankar and Damodharan. Has also contributed significantly to content development across programs, especially Primary math. Has been instrumental in conceptualizing and designing workbooks which are very popular with children.

    Ms. Padmini Srinivasan

    Bachelors in Pharmacy, Masters in Psychology and PG Diploma in Human Rights. Padmini worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 2.5 years and then 4 years in the banking industry – both as a trainer. She then moved into the non-profit sector in 2007. Initially she joined as a trainer and played a key role in training our field teams in English teaching. Soon after, she moved into project planning and donor reporting function and today handles this role for the Eureka SuperKidz team.

    Mr. Srinivasan M

    Diploma in Electronics and Communications from the Central Polytechnic Chennai, Web Design Certificate from Loyola College. Srinivasan got involved with the Literacy campaign when he was still a student. He was part of the coordination team for the state wide Arivoli Literacy Campaigns in early 1990s. He was primarily involved in mobilizing communities to participate in the mass literacy efforts. He started a local newspaper in Mylapore Mailai Seythigal. He then worked for 2 years in an eco friendly Leather Technology project in CERD at Pondicherry – helping set up village enterprises. Then he joined the Tamilnadu Science Forum and worked as the Editor of Thulir – A well known monthly childrens science magazine – for 8 years. In partnership with a few friends, he started a book design and publishing company called Fineline. He has been coordinating libraries across the state partnering with several NGOs on libraries and other programs.

    Mr. Thothadri Srinivasan

    Thothadri was working with Infosys for 15 years as a Program Manager in Financial Services unit. He was also spear-heading Infosys Chennais CSR Wing SNEHAM for more than 10 years. He has been volunteering with Aid India from 2002 onwards. During 2010, he took a sabbatical for 6 months to work full-time with Aid India and was deeply inspired by the mission on imparting quality education to poor rural children. He joined Aid India full-time in July 2013 and has been working as a Project Director responsible for managing after-school centres in Chennai. He also manages some of the partnership programs with Govt/Govt-aided schools.

    Mr. Kumar oversees financial management for the organization. He is a retired Senior Bank Manager from Canara Bank. He was head of Regional Bank Staff Training College – Specialist ISO Process Training and founder of an Interior Decoration Company.

    Ms. Anbazhagi TK

    Certificate in Food and Child Nutrition, Tirupattur College. Currently doing her MA (correspondence) in Sociology.Anbazhagi comes from an extremely poor landless family in a remote village in Vellore district. She joined the literacy campaign in her village as a volunteer. Looking at her commitment, she was appointed as the cluster and then block coordinator for the literacy program. She then worked for 3 years as the Block Heath Coordinator for an Action Research Community Health Project in 30 villages. Anbazhagi joined as the district coordinator for Kanchipuram and has been a very effective organizer. She brings a very strong sense of community participation in all aspects of her work. She is also a very hard worker who puts in a lot of thought into every step she takes. She has the capacity to take along a lot of different people which is very useful in scaling up an effort.

    Joined as a young teenager just out of school. Played a very important role in developing content for Tamil reading skill.Was involved in training and monitoring of Govt school teachers for the PadippumInikkum reading program. He stepped into a leadership role of building a strong base in Trichy district and coordinating several field programs there. Liasoned with the Government education officials and the Collector on several programs. He is now one of the most valuable and youngest leaders of the organization.

    Mr. Selva Ganapathy

    Selva Ganapathy works with IIT Madras, Chemical Engineering Dept, as a Technical Superindentent& has been volunteering with us since 2004. He has been instrumental in coordinating a lot of volunteers to contribute their time in our programs and also have mobilized a lot of people to adopt Eureka SuperKidz villages. Selva also organizes Eureka Run every year to raise funds as well as awareness about Eureka Programs. Selva was awarded the Volunteer hero of the year 2014.
