Eureka Run 2016 - Run to educate poor children in Tamilnadu

Eureka Run for Children is an event for people of all ages and levels of fitness to run / jog / walk a 5 km distance along the Marina Beach to show their support for improving quality of education for underprivileged children in Tamilnadu.

Eureka Best Tutor Award 2016

Eureka Best Tutor Award 2016 held on 1st May 2016. The pillars of the Eureka program’s success are the dedicated and hardworking village-level teachers of whom, more than 80% are young women, who take daily classes for these children in remote villages and schools in Tamil Nadu. Of these teachers, more than 75 tutors from our partner-NGOs have performed exceptionally well and brought about significant improvement in the learning levels of children in the past academic year. As a recognition for their perseverance, hard work and dedication, they were honoured with the ‘Best Teachers Award’ in Chennai at a special Award Ceremony on 1st May 2016.

The morning session comprised of fun activities that began with a trip in a metro train and then to Express Avenue Mall where the Teachers enjoyed the games, 5D show etc. followed by the Award function in the afternoon.

Mr. Bharathi Krishnakumar, Film Director, RJ Balaji, Dr. Kaleeswaran, Alternative Media Center, Dr. Balaji Sampath, Secretary AID INDIA, Dr. Ravishankar, Jt. Secretary, AID INDIA were the speakers and special guests for the event. Mr. Bharathi Krishnakumar enthralled the audience with his inimitable speech lasted for 45 minutes and Dr. Kaleeswaran's team performed a form of folk music on the stage.

More than 25 NGO partners of AID India participated and deserving rural tutors received the awards from the guests. At the event, we also recognised the NGO heads who had conducted Little Creators Event at their respective blocks. We also released the annual report of the Eureka SPARK program in the event.

Eureka Little Creators 2016

On 10th April 2016, the State Level Little Creators event was held in Chennai where children from districts across Tamil Nadu participated. A total of 24 teams, who won the top prizes in their respective districts, took part in this grand event.

City City Hunt Hunt 2015 - Chennai's biggest Treasure Hunt

How much do we as Chennaiites know about our city?

Known as the “Detroit of India” for its automobile industry, Chennai is the biggest industrial and commercial centre in South India, and a major cultural, economic and educational centre.

  • Chennai is the sixth-largest city and fourth-most populous metropolitan area in the country.
  • Chennai is the secondary financial hub in the country, after Mumbai.
  • Chennai also has a great mixture of traditional, cultural and modern architecture. It’s also a city which offers a vast diversity in exotic cuisines.

There are several places within Chennai, rich in history whose values have a great significance and many among us do not have complete knowledge about the same. AID India and Bhumi plan to come together to organize and host a one of its kind event – Chennai’s biggest Treasure Hunt - held on 18th October 2015.

An event for individuals (a group of 4) – corporates and college students, to participate and explore Chennai in the most exciting and funniest way. The hunt will take you through the cultural, traditional and modern parts of Chennai leading to an enthralling finish at one of the education centres run by Bhumi / AID India. The hunt will have 5 clues to crack before reaching the finish point, with hidden traps in between to divert before getting to the destination.

Surprise gifts worth Rs. 50,000/- awaits the team which finishes first, and on the whole treasure’s worth Rs. 1,00,000/- to be discovered awaits. There is a small participation fee of Rs. 2000/- (for a team of 4 working professionals) and Rs. 1000/- (for a team of 4 college students) per team for entering the challenge. All these proceeds will be used at the education centres run by AID India and Bhumi.

Battle of the Buffet 2015

'Battle of the Buffet' is curtain riser to Daan Utsav (Joy of Giving Week). A gala fun filled evening with great food, fantastic music, and the coming together of like-minded people – all for a social cause!

Ennum Ezhuthum - Summer Campaign 2015

'Ennum Ezhuthum' is a campaign launched during the summer holidays of every year (during May – June) in Tamilnadu to ensure every child will learn to read and write Tamil sentences and solve 2 digit addition and subtraction problems. This year, the campaign is launched in 10,000 villages in various districts in Tamilnadu.

VolCon 2015

VolCon is a national conference that focuses on promoting volunteerism among individuals and encourages volunteerism as a way of life.

An initiative by AID India and Bhumi, VolCon 2015 will bring together individuals from schools, colleges, corporations and non-profit organisations to share their inspiring stories, learning and experiences on volunteering across different spheres of lives. It will also provide insight into some of the best volunteer movements that have emerged within modern India.

‘Ennum Ezhuthum - 2017’ (numbers & letters) campaign was launched in 2008 in Tamil Nadu with the cause to spread the importance of quality education in the villages during the summer holidays (May – June).This is to ensure every child will learn to read Tamil words and solve 2 digit addition problems. This year, the campaign has been launched in 5,000 villages across various districts in Tamil Nadu.
